Roberts Bakery has boosted its delivery performance to major supermarkets and food service customers such as 3663, Food Partners and Greencore thanks to Paragon multi drop routing software.
Frank Roberts and Sons Ltd is based in the Cheshire Market town of Northwich and was established in 1887. The site is home to both branches of the business; Roberts Bakery, which produces over 2 million loaves, bread rolls and bakery treats each week and The Pastry Case, which specialises in sweet pastry products and is the UK’s largest baker of gingerbread biscuits. Still run by the Roberts Family, the company is an integral part of the community and the cooling towers at the front of the bakery have become a renowned local landmark.
After only two months of using the system, the company has seen a significant improvement in planning and delivery fleet efficiency.
The company previously planned its 35 daily direct routes manually for delivering products to hundreds of customer sites. With the new software, planning time has been reduced to a few hours and any adjustments are quick and easy, with the software re-optimising the plan automatically.
Roberts Bakery has plans to use the software across the rest of its business, enabling other customers to benefit from optimised routing and scheduling. The company also plans to link its vehicle tracking system to the software, allowing it to compare real-time activity against its Paragon produced plans.
“Paragon’s proven track record of delivering benefits to food industry companies, combined with an impressive software demonstration and a wide range of software options and features, made it the obvious choice for our operation. We were able to get first hand endorsements from our customers who are also relying on the software to streamline planning processes. This re-confirmed to us that we were definitely making the right decision for our business.” Mark Owen, Director of Logistics, Roberts Bakery
