Doncaster-based fitted kitchen specialist, Omega plc, is realising the benefits of using Paragon Software Systems’ Single Depot vehicle routing solution to optimise its transport operations.
Omega designs, manufactures and markets fitted kitchens and furniture. Its fleet of eighteen vehicles delivers both ready-to-assemble and pre-built cabinets to kitchen specialist outlets, homes and building sites across the UK.
Omega implemented the Paragon Single Depot solution along with average road speed data to improve its delivery scheduling and route planning capabilities. The company needed flexible planning to allow for multiple deliveries per area. By measuring the effect of better route optimisation, the company expects to reduce costs whilst improving customer service.
The Paragon Single Depot software enables Omega to calculate efficient and practical transport schedules for its fleet. The system holds customer address details, delivery quantities, time windows, vehicle sizes, and other transport parameters. Paragon’s software uses HERE digital mapping to calculate the most effective delivery and collection sequences with accurate journey times, allocating loads to appropriate vehicles.
Prior to the implementation of Paragon’s solution, Omega’s delivery scheduling was a manual task, with distribution outsourced to a haulage company.
Since implementing Paragon’s solution, Omega has seen a noticeable improvement in cost savings due to a 10 percent increase in load-fills and a 5 percent reduction in miles per drop and miles per run.
“We measure transport costs as a percentage of the value of the goods being despatched,” said Richard Stevens, Transport Manager, Omega plc. “Since implementing the Paragon Single Depot system, we’ve had the best two years ever.”
