Fifth consecutive win of prestigious award for reducing mileage, minimizing carbon emissions & lowering fuel usage
Paragon announces that the company has been selected as one of Food Logistics’ 2017 Top Green Providers. This is Paragon’s fifth appearance on this annual list of companies whose products, services or environmental stewardship is promoting sustainability within the food and beverage industry. Paragon was selected for providing clients with green savings from reduced mileage and carbon emissions using Paragon’s routing and scheduling software.

Paragon’s routing and scheduling software builds efficient routes that cut mileage and maximize utilization of existing fleets. In addition, Paragon’s software generates carbon-friendly schedules by taking into account vehicle weight and speed variations that impact fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Deliveries can be sequenced in the most efficient way to minimize mileage, while collections can be incorporated on a return trip to reduce empty running of trucks. Planned routes can then be fed directly into a SatNav device in the cab providing turn by turn guidance for the driver to follow, ensuring that the driver follows the planned route, keeping mileage and carbon emissions to a minimum. By being able to create more efficient routes to reduce mileage and generate more carbon-friendly schedules based on road speed and load weights, Paragon customers can better meet their sustainability goals and green supply chain targets.
Eco-fleet achievements made by individual Paragon customers include:
- Reduction in vehicles, e.g. a US-based temperature-controlled distribution company recently cut their fleet by 10 per cent in the first 6 months of using Paragon.
- Reduction in mileage, e.g. a UK wholesaler cut their mileage by more than 620k miles.
- Reduction in fuel usage, e.g. a UK supermarket reduced their fuel consumption by 1 million gallons.
- Reduction in time, e.g. a large UK supermarket has increased driver productivity by 8%, improved empty running by 12%, cut store turnaround times by 15% and increased on-time delivery levels by 17%.
Food Logistics’ annual Top Green Providers recognizes companies whose products, services, or exemplary leadership is enhancing sustainability within the food and beverage industry. Each year, the criteria for earning a spot on the list become more stringent for applicants. For example, the editorial staff evaluates a company’s participation in such programs as the EPA’s SmartWay and other recognized sustainability programs; facilities that are LEED-certified, and/or feature solar panels, LED lighting and other energy saving installations and retrofits that produce measure reductions in GHG emissions, to name a few.
This year’s Top Green Providers list includes grocers, 3PLs, cold storage providers, pallet and packaging manufacturers, software and technology companies and others whose products and services are elevating sustainability to a competitive advantage.
